Last week we worked with the wonderful children and teachers from St. Mary's High Green Primary School in Sheffield. They all took part in our Boomwhacker Experience workshop. The KS1 classes who took part, really got into the flow of things. The Reception and Y1 class used the Boomwhackers to explore musicial pitch in music and learnt how to make polyrhythms using words, rhymes and phrases. The Y2 class took Boomwhacker music a lstep further and combined dance movements to add viusal display and help integrate the timing. The staff had a fantastic Boomwhacker teacher training session after school. They were extremely lively and naughty - just the way teacher training sessions should be! This probably had something to do with them having just had their Offsted inspection the week before. As their school got scorings in the 1s and 2s they were naturally in a joyous mood! It was fabulous working with them. They really embraced all the excersises and came up with their own ideas for rhythms using words and phrases!
Boomwhackers are a fantastic economical music resource for schools. A brilliant way to explore musical pitch with young children and grasp the exciting complexity of poly rhyhtms with older children. We have lead fantiastic Boomwhacker Experience workshops around the country. Our most recent Boomwhacker workshops have been at Roose Primary School in Cumbria, Mount Primary School in Liverpool and St. Lawrance School in Skellingthorpe, Lincolnshire. We are looking forward to leading a Boomwhacker workshops at John Davies Primary School in Derbyshire and St. Giles and St. Georges Primary School in Staffordshire.
