How the Unbeatable Energy Drumming Event works

We set up a room for participants to assemble in one or more concentric circles working in groups from 10 people to 200 plus. Everyone is welcomed with a percussion instrument and is given an opportunity to create a "pulse". Sections of the group may be given simple rhythms to play or use games and orchestration techniques to create "drum magic". In so doing the group is led to experience their full potential as a team, producing a collective, synchronised group sound full of creative energy.

Communication and Listening
The success of the group sound is brought about by the group's ability to listen to each other developing team skills as they drum. Individuals play their part in a sound where being loudest does not mean getting your way!

The harmonic sound of a team playing in a state of heightened sensitivity to each other can create a euphoric sense of togetherness and group fulfilment. Communication skills are enhanced and group dynamics come into their own as departmental barriers fall.

Individual Empowerment
The experience of playing music for the first time can be a revelation for many participants. They get to see how valid their contribution is in a completely unfamiliar situation. Participants feel confident and empowered as they see their colleagues in a different light and are left inspired, uplifted and energised.

Leadership
A professional drumming facilitator requires leadership skills. A facilitator's skill in leadership involves successfully pacing a group's energy, character and sensibilities, knowing when to make correct group interventions and when to stay out of the way. He needs to bring out the best in everyone's abilities without controlling them.

We can give your managers the opportunity to practice some simple facilitation techniques with their team. Their challenge is to be creative and innovative in their communication skills without being dominant. This can be a powerful learning tool in the art of team leadership.

Embracing Human Diversity
Unbeatable Energy is rooted in and has extensively studied traditional West African drumming and dance; music built on equality where every part of the sound is as important as all the others. Drummers soon discover that however simple a part they play it offers a major contribution to the whole.

Venue Requirements
A large sized carpeted room is ideal. We require chairs for all participants and facilitators. The room set-up time requires a minimum of one hour which must be allowed for prior to commencement of the event. Ideally we need parking as close to the venue as possible for unloading equipment.

Equipment
A wide variety of hand drums and percussion instruments are provided including bass drums, bells, shakers, cabassas, and sometimes even squeaky toys! The point being that nothing should constrain the creativity of the group in achieving its aim.

Programming the Event for the Organisation's Needs

Before the event we will consult with your company on designing the time frame, participant scale and objectives. The drum circles are flexible and can be tailored appropriately to the company's needs and expectations e.g. team building, ice-breaker or wind-down sessions.
